In the first reading, the Parliament of Georgia, with 78 votes, supported the package of legislative amendments prepared under the authorship of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which includes amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses of Georgia and the Law of Georgia "On Road Traffic".
The package of legislative changes was presented by the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs -Aleksandre Darakhvelidze, at the plenary session of the Georgian Parliament.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs stated that the purpose of the package of legislative changes is to ensure road traffic safety.
According to the changes, in the period from December 1st to March 1st, it will be mandatory to equip the vehicle with winter tires when moving in the zones/road sections defined by the Government of Georgia.
In addition to the mentioned, in special cases, taking into account the meteorological conditions, a time period different from the above-mentioned period may be determined or an additional requirement may be established to equip the vehicle with anti-slip chains along with winter tires.
In case of violation of the above mentioned requirements, the person will face administrative responsibility.
The technical characteristics of winter tires are determined by the decree of the Government of Georgia.
